"No tree, it is said, can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell."

pic of the week
creek

Wet Beaver Creek, Rimrock, AZ (04/08/2026)

A year-round water source fed by natural springs located north on the Colorado Plateau.

Trees along the banks:
Cottonwood, Alder, Sycamore.

Waterlife:
Longfin Dace, Desert sucker, Roundtail Chub.

You might want to check out the nearby 6,155-acre Wet Beaver Wilderness, also within the Coconino National Forest. While there, check out the "Crack" swimming hole and the Bell Trail, which leads to the Bell Cascades, a series of small waterfalls and pools. The area is popular for hiking, swimming, and picnicking, and a reliably cool place to cool off in the summer months.

The Latest ...

This Week: Photo Gallery in the works
The first page is completed; More pages are in progress from the Wild! The gallery will be a collection of photos spanning the past five years of boondocking. Organized by time and location, the gallery will include specials categories for adventure motorcycle riding, pets from the past, landscape portraits and other memories of this grand journey. The gallery will be updated regularly with new photos as they are taken. Check back here for the latest updates.

Last Week: First Monsoon of the Season
A mild one, for sure, complete with lightning and thunder, but no hail ... yet. Rain was light at this location but Flagstaff reported flooding. I could see the system on the radar rolling by on either side of us. Dodged a bullet. Comms were down for a good portion of the past 48 hrs due to cloud cover and/or lack of sun and lack of power. All systems now operational and the forecast promises sunnier days ahead for the region. Check back here for the latest.

2 Weeks Ago: Trial and Error in the Digital Environment
THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. Building this web page has taken most of my time these days. Haven't dabbled in web design for a few years - things have changed in that time. Fear not! Changes are coming soon, including:

Scheduled Changes to be Made

  • Adding the Story, Photo, Video and Contact pages to the site
  • Photo Selection - A collection of over 100 photos spanning a five-year period of time.
  • Linking YouTube videos into this website - eventually all vids will be linked to this site.

Last Month: 3 Days in Fontana
An 800 mile roundtrip. Thanks to SpecDr for helping out with gas. It REALLY makes a difference.

Note: Only 1 of the links and/or buttons on this page are functional (View Fullscreen). The rest are reserved for future use (another way of saying I haven't written the code for it yet).

The Many Spurs of Forest Service Road 171

Most of these spurs are not official - or even legal, I'd guess. But they are there to explore nonetheless!

Lizard

The Southen Desert Horned Lizard

Didn't know these little creatures were in this area until my hiking partner nearly stepped on one the other day! Maybe 3.5 inches long and almost as wide, back in the day we used to call these things 'Horny Toads', although they are true lizards (Phrynosoma platyrhinos).
